In the 1970s Barbara was instrumental in setting up an Oxfam group, when she and some friends - ordinary but extraordinary people - opened the first Oxfam charity shop in Bridgend. The shop raised thousands of pounds every year, Barbara worked in the shop and did the accounts, and showed her children what extraordinary ordinary people could achieve. Barbara continued to support Oxfam for the rest of her life.
